Marie Hilson Katzenbach, 1882-1970

Marie Hilson Katzenbach worked throughout her life to improve education in New Jersey. She served on the State Board of Education for 44 years, nine as president, as well as giving years of service on behalf of the New Jersey School for the Deaf, renamed in her honor in 1965. In this photo (center) she is shown in her 80th year when she was the 1962 commencement speaker at New Jersey City University (then Jersey City State College).
